Palmistry and Vedic astrology — the sky and the hand in one reading
Palmistry and Vedic astrology describe the same person from two sides: the birth chart shows the sky at the moment of birth, the hand shows the body we were born into. Both systems use the same planets. When the same planet is strong both in the chart and on the hand, the trait is confirmed twice — and that is the trait worth building on.
The same planets, two records
In palmistry every mount of the hand bears the name of a planet: under the index finger lies the mount of Jupiter, under the middle finger Saturn, under the ring finger the Sun, under the little finger Mercury. The base of the thumb is the mount of Venus, the edge of the hand is the Moon, and the two mounts of Mars lie by the thumb and by the edge of the hand.
Vedic astrology (Jyotish) measures the strength of the very same planets in the birth chart: their sign and house, whether they are exalted or debilitated. This is no coincidence. In India palmistry is called Hasta Samudrika Shastra and for centuries it was read together with the horoscope — the hand was seen as "a map of the sky written into the body".
The Indian hand also has Rahu and Ketu
Western palmistry knows seven planets. Indian palmistry adds the two lunar nodes, which in Vedic astrology are full "planets": Rahu in the centre of the palm (where the Western tradition sees the plain of Mars) and Ketu just above the wrist. So the hand has a place for all nine planets of the birth chart — and each one can be compared with the sky.
The principle of two circles — Vesica Piscis
Vesica Piscis is two overlapping circles. One is the sky (the time and place of birth), the other is the body (the hand). The shared part — the almond in the middle — is what both systems say in agreement. That is where we look for a person's core: talents and tasks that do not come from one interpretation but repeat in two independent records.
When the chart and the hand disagree, that is information too: the sky shows potential, the hand shows what we have done with it so far. The dominant hand changes over the years; the birth chart does not.
- A planet strong in the chart and on the hand — a confirmed trait, the "core".
- Strong only in the chart — potential waiting to be developed.
- Strong only on the hand — a skill earned through life.
Where the name fits in
A person is born at a given time and place, in a given body — and that body is given a name. In VesicaKarma the numerology of the full name is the third layer: it does not vote in the comparison of sky and hand, but shows which planet is strengthened by the name we are called by.
We predict nothing
Neither the chart nor the hand is a verdict. Both describe tendencies and potentials — what comes easily and what is worth working on. A good reading does not say "this will happen", but "here is your strength, and here is your lesson".
Frequently asked questions
Is palmistry part of Vedic astrology?
In the Indian tradition, yes — Hasta Samudrika Shastra belongs to Samudrika Shastra, the knowledge of bodily signs, and was read together with the horoscope. Both use the same nine planets.
What does comparing the hand with the birth chart give?
It separates traits confirmed twice (strong both in the sky and in the body) from those found in only one system. The former are the most reliable basis for personal growth.
Do I need my birth time?
For a full birth chart, yes — the ascendant and houses depend on it. The hand and name numerology work without a birth time.
